Let’s improv our way through life!

For Dustin Phillips, the act of creating and playing music is a selfless endeavor, outwardly expressing from within to connect with others and put a smile on people’s faces. Dustin’s blend of upbeat and uplifting music does just that.

Based in Indiana, Dustin's eclectic approach to music sees most of his live performances revolve around improvisation. An array of captivating improv games such as 'Nonsensical Medley', 'Genre Swap' and 'Four-Note Song' serve as the building blocks to his improvisational acts, allowing him to showcase the breadths of his talents, and his innate ability to create stellar medleys and original songs on the spot. Above all, it’s the perfect vessel through which he can tether his love of performance to the act of engaging with his audience in a profound way.

Having played the piano from the age of two, Dustin's love for music has been omnipresent for as long as he can remember. While undertaking professional piano lessons, it was his unique gift to play by ear that caught the attention of his peers. By the time he was in college, he began experimenting with different styles, with a particular focus on jazz and funk.

Prior to the pandemic, Dustin played three paid gigs, including a two-hour performance at Books and Brews Mothership in Castleton, and a 30-minute set at Alley’s Alehouse in Fishers. He also participated in the Dayton production of Mixtape Caravan, a jam session with like-minded improv artists. Today, he continues to refine his live act behind the scenes, while routinely taking to Facebook livestreams once a month to showcase new material with his audience.
